What makes you so sure there is a God?

This is to the believers who read my blog, if any.

If indeed God existed don’t you think he would at least let everyone know? There’s already a bible saying he exists, so why now is he hiding from everyone? Is he ashamed of the world he “created?” It only takes a quick visit and everyone would have no choice but to believe. It wouldn’t take much on his part, but no, he decides to stay away.

There is no hard evidence that he exists, but there is evidence of evolution. Wouldn’t you think that is more rational than some magician in the sky who created this huge earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th?

If you believe in God then you must believe in pixies, right? I hope so. There’s no evidence that they’re around, just like God. Maybe if someone wrote a big book about them being the creators of the earth and got some people to preach it people would start believing in invisible pixies also?

You guys have been brainwashed, why can’t you think on your own, use your own head instead of getting sucked into the most popular fiction novel? The bible.

  1. I don’t really have any answers for your first two questions. I could make some assumptions, but…

Evolution isn’t contradictory to all people who believe in God/gods. Nor is the seven day creation story contradictory to all Christians.

I’ve also heard/read Christians attribute the pixies, wee folk, tuatha, whatever to demons. Then there are those, of other belief systems, that believe in them without the demon connotations.

  2. I have waited for days to see the answers to this one. Yet only one person has dared to comment.

So many jumped on the bandwagon in commenting about how those of us without belief in some supernatural being are wrong. Where are they now to prove their case in point?

    Makes you wonder, huh?

  3. What I’m wondering is where is pauljub to defend his religion. He was the one commenting the most on this one.

  4. I keep checking back as well. The last one had a lively discussion, so I was hoping to see one here too.

  5. Discussions are always fun. Maybe in my next post it will spark a nice one. Just need to think of something to write :P.

  6. I would first like to answer you last question: You guys have been brainwashed, why can’t you think on your own, use your own head instead of getting sucked into the most popular fiction novel?

I’m a Christian, always have been, and can quite certainly say I’m not brainwashed. Believing in God isn’t just about fairy tales, there is in fact more evidence for its historical and scientific validity than there is for evolution. I’m not saying there is proof on the philisophical aspect of it, but there is quite simply nothing incorrect in the Bible. No one has ever found something in history, or the present day to contradict it, so I can safely say, it’s not just about blind faith.

Now I’ll answer this one…. If indeed God existed don’t you think he would at least let everyone know? There’s already a bible saying he exists, so why now is he hiding from everyone?”

If you’re a Christian (I realize you’re not, just bear with me) you need to realize, the hardest, and largest aspect of it is faith. God could very well make us all believe and worship, but he doesn’t, and I don’t claim to know why. I do however think it’s because without free will, it’s really not belief or worship or love, it’s like being a programmed robot.”

So I don’t know beyond a shadow of a doubt why He doesn’t reveal Himself, but the Bible says the He will, and if you want me to quote the portions of it that say how, when, and why, I will.

And now: Is he ashamed of the world he “created?”

Simply so no one can say I was afraid to answer this, the answer is no. As I said before, He will reveal Himself, and in fact has done so already, in the second half of the Bible – Just as a sidenote, not everyone believed Him then, so why would they now?

“There is no hard evidence that he exists, but there is evidence of evolution. Wouldn’t you think that is more rational than some magician in the sky who created this huge earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th?”

Ok, I fancy myself to be what would be called a creation scientist, meaning I am a scientist, and believe in creation. So I won’t start a 20 day argument on points and counter-points I will just ask one question: If evolution is true, and the Big bang happened, Where did the mass and energy required for the Big Bang come from? Even if the Creator was not the Christian God, I just connot wrap my head around how someone can say there is no God and was no creation, and then say “First there was nothing, and then it exploded.”

I’m not going to properly answer you’re pixie question because it’s just foolish. You can’t see air but you believe in it, you can’t give any proof that we don’t live in an enourmous glass bubble as an experiment for some alien race, but you know we don’t.

Now I have to speak to Mostly-Cloudy. First, if you’re a Christian, you’re a little mixed up. Evolution IS NOT A PART OF CHRISTIANITY. In no way is it possible for any aspect of true evolution to take a place in Christian beliefs. Done.

Pixies and wee-folk, are for people with over-active imaginations, and they aren’t demons, I can promise you that.

As a summary, Christianity isn’t about only about faith, there is evidence, and Pixies aren’t real.

Now, since I put together such a nice response, I would appreciate one from yourself.

    Goodbye for now.

  7. Would you mind linking me to scientific evidence that God exists and everything in the Bible happened? Someone split the sea? Ressurected? And on top of it all fit animals on a ship? Bible isn’t evidence either, please.

No need to show me, I know it says he’ll show himself but I too can write a book and say my God, Jimbo will come down from his cloud kingdom. All I need is the brain dead people to follow, believe and spread the word of my new religion. If I said I was praying to Jimbo you would call me nuts, wouldn’t you? Talking to some imaginary friend.

Mass and energy have always existed, it doesn’t need a creator, especially one as ludicrous as God.

My pixie question is as foolish as God. He’s invisible, they’re invisible.

“Pixies and wee-folk, are for people with over-active imaginations, and they aren’t demons, I can promise you that.”

God is as real as the pixies you claim aren’t.

“As a summary, Christianity isn’t about only about faith, there is evidence, and Pixies aren’t real.”

There is evidence Christianity exists, obviously yes. No evidence God does though.

“I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

    Stephen F Roberts

I’m pretty sure you don’t believe in Zeus, do you?

  8. There is only one comment in there that I can directly answer… Mainly because the rest of that was only criticism, and not anything more than your own beliefs.

The animals on the ark you say, well I shall say something too.

First a clarification, it was a big boat, and next if you’re fairly well studied in biology this might make more sense, but in order to have every animal preserved, you don’t need to preserve every species! Only the ones that contain all the genetic information of those we see today, because all the variations of a single creature (Dogs, cats) can come from a single ancestor. Now I have to say that this is NOT evolution. Evolution is the changing of one species into another species – Macroevolution. What I stated above is called microevolution, and can be observed in even only several generations, its a dog breed getting smaller, or selecting only sheep that produce the best wool for a flock.

Now as you didn’t make any points or counter-points (Besides the obvious criticisms) I can’t say any more except this: Perhaps from you’re point of view there is no evidence that God exists, but I want you to give me one solid piece of evidence that says He does not.

    P.S No, I don’t believe in Zeus.

  9. By the definitions Dawkins uses in his book, I’d be a 6 on his scale; Very low probability, but short of zero. De facto atheist. “I cannot know for certain but I think God is very improbable, and I live my life on the assumption that he is not there.”

I don’t have evidence of God not being there just as you have no evidence that he is. You said he does exist so why not show me that evidence you were talking about up there? You did say there was more evidence for that than evolution.

May I ask why you don’t believe in Zeus but believe in your God? Is it because you think it’s silly to believe in Zeus?

  10. Ok first of all, I would like to apologize for the long time it took me to reply… I didn’t check this blog all spring break.

I don’t know who Dawkins is, but I’m going to assume he’s a prominent evolutionist and look him up after this – Maybe he has a probability for God existing too?

I’m going to answer the second question first: I don’t believe in Zeus because I quite simply have no reason too. Zeus, is a mythilogical being designed by humans with human characteristics, along with all the other Roman/Greek gods and godesses. Now, I know you’re going to say, “Well what’s different about your so called God?” Well I’m glad you asked.

There is no way I can type out, or even say all of the ways in which the Christian God is different, but here is a couple. First, Jesus (Son of God – I’m not putting in these bits to offend, I just don’t know if you know) is the only “deity” of any religion today who suffered as a human. (Unless of course you’re a Bhuddist or Mormon, but thats another issue.) What I mean by that is that God not only understands us simply by dint of being God, but by having LIVED. Perhaps that isn’t significant to you, and it probably isn’t because I realize you don’t want to accept it, but here is another difference. The Bible makes claims that no other religion dares. (Which is in itself an affirmation of my faith for me.) It claims that not only did Jesus die on the cross, but that 3 days later he was ressurected. He is alive.

One side-note here, did you know that’s what Easter is? A celebration of Jesus Christ’s death (Good Friday)
and His ressurection? (Easter) Maybe you will think twice about celebrating it…

Any other religion that you find, the prophets will undoubtedly always be dead – Muhammad, Gandi, Gautama – they are all dead and make no claims otherwise. Again, this might not be significant to you, I’m just showing you two reasons why I believe in God, and not Zeus.

Now… The fun one. (Not sarcasm)

Before I actually answer this question I really need to know something, would you accept any amount of evidence for creation and against evolution if I presented it to you? Not necessarily meaning you are going to become a Christian, but perhaps that you would stop being so certain in atheism.

Again, I apologize for the delay and again in advance if it happens again… School is a busy thing.
